Destination Guide

Malaysia is a practical relocation destination for technology professionals, although it is a peninsula-and-islands country rather than one single island. Kuala Lumpur and nearby Petaling Jaya offer the strongest concentration of IT, consulting and shared-services jobs, while Penang and Johor also have growing technology and engineering markets. Malaysia combines modern urban living with diverse Malay, Chinese and Indian cultures, excellent food and relatively affordable daily expenses. Coastal areas and islands such as Langkawi, Tioman and parts of Sabah and Sarawak provide beaches, diving and a slower lifestyle. English is widely used in professional settings, though learning basic Malay helps socially. Foreign hires normally need employer sponsorship for an Employment Pass; the company usually manages the application. Check current immigration rules, salary thresholds and dependent eligibility before moving. Rent, transport, healthcare and schooling should be researched according to the chosen city.
