Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in consulting, technology, shared services, pharmaceuticals, medical devices and digital transformation, especially around Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Johor. For island living, Penang provides a strong technology community, heritage culture, excellent food and a relaxed coastal lifestyle. Langkawi is quieter and more nature-focused, while Sabah and Sarawak offer distinctive indigenous cultures, rainforests and outdoor activities. Malaysia is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and international communities, and English is widely used in business. Living costs are generally moderate, although central Kuala Lumpur and popular expatriate areas are more expensive. International professionals normally need an Employment Pass sponsored by their employer; eligibility depends on salary, qualifications and the employing company. Relocating employees should arrange documented qualifications, medical checks, housing and local banking after approval. Malaysia’s tropical climate, public transport in major cities and convenient regional flights make it an attractive base for Asia-Pacific careers.
