Destination Guide

Malaysia offers technology opportunities mainly in Kuala Lumpur and the Klang Valley, with additional roles in Penang, Johor, Malacca, Sabah and Sarawak. Penang is known for electronics and engineering, while Kuala Lumpur has the broadest software, consulting and multinational-company market. Life is relatively affordable compared with Singapore, with diverse food, warm weather and a multicultural environment influenced by Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous communities. Popular islands such as Langkawi, Penang, Tioman and parts of Sabah offer beaches and a slower lifestyle, but major technology jobs are usually on the mainland or in larger cities. Foreign employees generally need employer sponsorship for an Employment Pass; the company normally handles the application. Check current immigration rules, healthcare, housing and tax requirements before relocating.
