Destination Guide

Malaysia offers technology opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor and, increasingly, remote teams serving regional clients. Software engineers can find roles in multinational consultancies, banks, telecommunications, software companies, manufacturing and shared-service centres. Kuala Lumpur provides the largest job market, modern infrastructure, international schools and extensive public transport, while Penang offers a more relaxed island lifestyle and a strong electronics sector. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and Indigenous traditions, and English is widely used in business. Living costs vary, with Kuala Lumpur generally more expensive than Penang or smaller cities. Popular island destinations include Langkawi, Penang and parts of Sabah and Sarawak, each offering beaches, food, nature and distinct local character. Foreign professionals normally need employer sponsorship, such as an Employment Pass, before working. Requirements, salary thresholds and approval procedures can change, so applicants should confirm current rules with Capgemini and Malaysia’s immigration authorities.
