Destination Guide

Malaysia is not a single island, but it offers opportunities across the peninsula and Borneo, with Kuala Lumpur and the Klang Valley serving as the main technology and consulting hub. Penang is known for electronics and engineering, while Johor supports manufacturing and regional business services. Sabah and Sarawak offer smaller markets with growing energy, infrastructure and tourism sectors. Malaysian culture is multicultural, shaped by Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous traditions, with English widely used in professional settings. The lifestyle combines modern cities, affordable food, tropical weather and easy access to beaches and islands. Foreign professionals generally need an employment pass sponsored by their employer; the company normally manages the application. Relocating candidates should budget for housing, healthcare, transport and schooling if applicable. Kuala Lumpur is the easiest base for senior technology roles and international travel.
