Destination Guide

Malaysia offers technology opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor, and Cyberjaya, particularly in SAP consulting, cloud, software engineering, shared services, cybersecurity, and data. Penang is popular for its technology and manufacturing sectors, while Langkawi, Sabah, and Sarawak offer a slower island or coastal lifestyle, although specialist jobs are more limited there. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian, and international influences; English is widely used in business. Living costs are generally moderate, with Kuala Lumpur offering the broadest professional network and public transport. Foreign professionals typically need an employment pass sponsored by their employer, and the company normally manages the application. Relocating candidates should check passport validity, dependent-pass rules, tax obligations, healthcare, schooling, and housing before moving. Malaysia’s tropical climate, varied food, beaches, and efficient regional travel make it attractive for expatriates.
