Destination Guide

Malaysia offers technology opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor and Cyberjaya, with demand for Salesforce, cloud, software engineering, consulting and shared-services professionals. Kuala Lumpur provides the widest job market, international schools, transport links and expatriate communities, while Penang offers a more relaxed lifestyle and a strong technology and manufacturing base. Malaysian culture is multicultural, combining Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous traditions, with excellent food and generally affordable living costs. Foreign professionals normally need employer sponsorship for an Employment Pass; the hiring company typically manages the application and approval process. Bring legalized qualifications and allow time for immigration formalities. Rent, transport and healthcare are comparatively reasonable, but costs rise in central Kuala Lumpur. English is widely used in business, although learning basic Malay helps with daily life. Malaysia's tropical climate means year-round heat, humidity and seasonal monsoon rain.
