Destination Guide

Malaysia offers technology opportunities mainly in Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya, Penang, and Johor, with roles in software engineering, cloud, consulting, shared services, and digital products. Penang combines a strong technology and electronics sector with a relaxed island lifestyle, beaches, food markets, and a sizeable expatriate community. Langkawi is more tourism-focused and generally has fewer software jobs. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian, and international influences; English is widely used in professional workplaces. Living costs are moderate, although central Kuala Lumpur and popular island areas are more expensive. Employees enjoy diverse food, warm weather, public transport in major cities, and easy regional travel. Foreign professionals normally require employer sponsorship for an Employment Pass, with approval tied to the role and company. Relocating workers should confirm visa eligibility, healthcare, tax, accommodation, and dependent-pass arrangements before accepting an offer.
