Destination Guide

Malaysia offers technology opportunities mainly in Kuala Lumpur and the surrounding Klang Valley, with additional roles in Penang, Johor and sometimes on Borneo in Sabah or Sarawak. Kuala Lumpur provides the broadest market, modern transport, international schools, shopping and a diverse food scene, while Penang is known for its heritage, beaches and growing technology sector. Malaysian culture blends Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous traditions; English is widely used in business, although learning basic Malay is helpful. Living costs are moderate compared with many global technology hubs, and tropical weather is warm year-round with monsoon seasons. Foreign professionals normally need employer sponsorship for an Employment Pass, with approval and eligibility depending on salary, qualifications and role. Candidates should confirm current immigration rules, relocation benefits, healthcare, tax obligations and whether family passes are included before accepting an offer.
