Destination Guide

Malaysia offers consulting and technology opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya, Penang and Johor, with demand for digital transformation, SAP, cloud, cybersecurity, analytics and project management skills. Kuala Lumpur provides the broadest career market, international schools, modern transport and a varied expatriate community, while Penang offers a more relaxed lifestyle and strong technology and manufacturing sectors. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences; English is widely used in business. Living costs are generally lower than in Western Europe, though central Kuala Lumpur housing can be expensive. Foreign professionals usually need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, and the employer normally handles the application. Dependants may require separate passes. Before relocating, confirm salary, tax treatment, healthcare, insurance, probation terms and visa sponsorship. Malaysia's tropical climate, food culture, beaches and islands make it attractive for travel, but traffic, humidity and occasional air pollution should be considered.
