Destination Guide

Malaysia offers technology opportunities in Kuala Lumpur and Cyberjaya, with additional roles in Penang, Johor and Sabah or Sarawak. Penang is popular for its technology industry, food and relaxed coastal lifestyle, while Langkawi offers a quieter island setting but fewer corporate jobs. Kuala Lumpur provides the widest choice of employers, international schools, healthcare and public transport, although housing and commuting costs are higher. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences, and English is commonly used in professional workplaces. The lifestyle combines modern city amenities with beaches, rainforests and affordable local food. Foreign employees generally need an employment pass sponsored by their employer; approval depends on salary, qualifications and position. Before relocating, confirm sponsorship, healthcare coverage, tax obligations and dependent-pass arrangements. Penang or Kuala Lumpur are usually the easiest starting points for international technology professionals.
