Destination Guide

Malaysia offers technology opportunities mainly in Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya, Penang and Johor, with demand for software developers, cloud specialists, data professionals and cybersecurity talent. For island living and travel, Penang combines strong infrastructure, heritage streets, beaches and a relaxed food culture. Langkawi is quieter and popular for beaches, nature and resort living, while Sabah and Sarawak offer dramatic landscapes, diving and indigenous cultural experiences. Malaysian culture is multicultural, shaped by Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous communities, with festivals, varied cuisine and generally welcoming social customs. Living costs are moderate, though central Kuala Lumpur and popular island areas can be more expensive. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, with approval depending on qualifications, salary and company eligibility. Before relocating, confirm sponsorship, medical insurance, housing, tax obligations and dependent arrangements. Public transport is strongest in major cities; island locations usually require a car or scooter.
