Destination Guide

Malaysia offers technology opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor and Cyberjaya, with demand for software testers, SAP consultants, developers, cloud specialists and support professionals. Penang combines a strong electronics and technology sector with a relaxed island lifestyle, while Langkawi is better suited to tourism, hospitality and remote-work living than large corporate careers. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese and Indian influences, diverse food and generally affordable living costs. Kuala Lumpur provides the broadest employment market and international amenities; Penang offers a slower pace and lower costs. Foreign professionals normally need employer sponsorship for an Employment Pass, and the employer typically handles the application. Check current immigration rules before relocating. Consider housing, healthcare, transport, taxation and family-dependent permits when planning a move.
