Destination Guide

Malaysia offers strong technology opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya and Penang, especially in consulting, shared services, software engineering, cloud, cybersecurity and enterprise platforms. Penang is popular for its technology industry, relaxed lifestyle, food culture and access to beaches, while Langkawi offers a quieter island setting suited to holidays rather than major employment. Sabah and Sarawak provide attractive outdoor lifestyles, though technology roles are more limited. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences, and English is widely used in business. Living costs are generally moderate, with Kuala Lumpur being more expensive than Penang or smaller cities. Foreign professionals normally need employer-sponsored permission, commonly an Employment Pass, arranged through the hiring company. Candidates should confirm sponsorship, salary thresholds, medical requirements and dependent options before relocating. Public transport is strongest in Kuala Lumpur; elsewhere, driving or ride-hailing is often useful.
