Destination Guide

Malaysia offers career opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor and other major centres, particularly in technology consulting, shared services, finance, engineering, manufacturing and digital transformation. For island living, Penang combines a strong business community with heritage streets, beaches and a relaxed lifestyle; Langkawi is quieter and more tourism-focused, while Sabah and Sarawak offer distinctive cultures and access to nature. Malaysian workplace culture is generally respectful, relationship-oriented and multicultural, with English widely used in professional settings. Living costs are moderate compared with many international cities, although central Kuala Lumpur and popular expatriate areas are more expensive. Foreign professionals normally require an employment pass sponsored by their employer, with approval handled through Malaysian authorities. Before relocating, confirm eligibility, tax obligations, healthcare coverage, housing, schooling and whether the role is based in Kuala Lumpur or another state.
