Destination Guide

Malaysia offers strong technology opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya and Penang, particularly in software development, cloud services, cybersecurity, shared services and consulting. Kuala Lumpur provides the broadest employment market, modern transport, international schools, shopping and varied housing, while Penang combines a growing technology sector with a more relaxed island lifestyle. Malaysia is culturally diverse, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences reflected in food, festivals and daily life. Living costs are generally moderate compared with Singapore or major Western cities, although central Kuala Lumpur rents can be higher. Foreign professionals usually need employer sponsorship for an Employment Pass, with the hiring company handling much of the application process and eligibility requirements. Candidates should confirm visa rules, salary thresholds and document requirements before relocating. English is widely used in business, but learning basic Malay can improve everyday integration. Tropical weather, traffic and humidity are practical considerations.
