Destination Guide

Malaysia is not a single island but a country divided between Peninsular Malaysia and Malaysian Borneo, with popular island destinations such as Langkawi, Penang, Tioman and parts of Sabah and Sarawak. Job opportunities are strongest in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Penang and Johor, with demand across technology, consulting, shared services, manufacturing, finance, digital marketing and FMCG. The culture is multicultural, combining Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous traditions, and English is widely used in professional settings. Lifestyle costs are moderate compared with many global cities, while food, public transport and healthcare are generally accessible. Foreign employees usually need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, with qualifications and salary subject to immigration rules. Relocating to Kuala Lumpur offers the widest career choice; Penang provides a slower lifestyle and strong technology and manufacturing sectors. Verify visa, tax and employment requirements before moving.
