Destination Guide

Malaysia offers strong opportunities in consulting, shared services, technology, finance, engineering and digital operations, especially in Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya and Penang. Kuala Lumpur provides the broadest professional market, while Penang is known for electronics, manufacturing and a more relaxed coastal lifestyle. Malaysian culture is diverse, combining Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous traditions, with English widely used in business. Living costs are generally lower than in Singapore or major Western cities, although central Kuala Lumpur housing can be expensive. Foreign professionals normally need employer sponsorship for an Employment Pass; the employer handles much of the application, and eligibility depends on salary, qualifications and role. Relocating is relatively straightforward in major cities, with good healthcare, transport, schools and international communities. Langkawi, Sabah and Sarawak offer attractive island and outdoor lifestyles, but usually have fewer corporate career opportunities.
