Destination Guide

Malaysia offers technology opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya and Penang, with additional roles in Johor and East Malaysia. Cloud, SAP, cybersecurity, software development and shared-services jobs are common, particularly with multinational consultancies. Kuala Lumpur provides the broadest career market, modern transport, international schools and varied housing, while Penang offers a slower lifestyle, strong electronics and technology industries, and access to beaches. Popular island destinations such as Langkawi, Tioman and parts of Sabah and Sarawak are ideal for weekends and outdoor activities. Malaysian culture is multicultural, combining Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous traditions, with English widely used in professional settings. Living costs are moderate compared with many global cities. Foreign employees usually require an Employment Pass sponsored by their employer; qualifications and salary thresholds apply. Applicants should confirm visa rules, relocation support, tax obligations and healthcare coverage before accepting an offer.
