Destination Guide

Malaysia offers strong opportunities in technology consulting, software engineering, SAP, cloud computing, cybersecurity, shared services, finance, manufacturing, and digital operations. Kuala Lumpur and nearby areas such as Petaling Jaya and Cyberjaya are the main employment hubs, while Penang and Johor also have growing technology and engineering sectors. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian, and indigenous influences, and English is widely used in business. Lifestyle costs are generally lower than in Singapore or major Western cities, with good food, public transport in major urban areas, and access to beaches, rainforests, and islands. Foreign professionals usually need employer sponsorship for an Employment Pass, with the company handling much of the application. Relocating employees should budget for housing, healthcare, schooling if applicable, and transport. Work permits and salary thresholds can change, so applicants should confirm current requirements with the employer and Malaysian authorities.
