Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor, and regional delivery centers, particularly in technology consulting, software, cloud, shared services, finance, and engineering. For island living, Penang is the most practical choice, combining established employers, good infrastructure, food culture, and beaches, while Langkawi offers a quieter lifestyle with fewer corporate roles. Sabah and Sarawak provide attractive nature and growing tourism, energy, and infrastructure sectors, though specialist technology jobs are more limited. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian, and indigenous influences, and English is widely used professionally. Living costs are moderate, but housing varies considerably by city. Foreign professionals generally need employer sponsorship for an Employment Pass, with approval requirements depending on salary, qualifications, and role. Plan for local registration, healthcare coverage, tax obligations, and reputable relocation support before moving.
