Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in technology, consulting, shared services, finance, engineering, tourism and business operations, particularly in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor and Cyberjaya. Its island destinations, including Penang, Langkawi, Tioman and parts of Borneo, are known for beaches, food, nature and a relaxed lifestyle, although major corporate roles are usually based on the mainland or in larger urban centres. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences; English is widely used in business, alongside Malay and other languages. Living costs are moderate compared with many international business hubs, while traffic and humidity can be challenging. Foreign professionals normally need employer-sponsored authorization, such as an Employment Pass, before starting work. Employers typically handle the application, and requirements may include qualifications, a valid contract and salary thresholds. Candidates should confirm visa rules, healthcare, housing and tax obligations before relocating.
