Destination Guide

Malaysia is not one island but a country spanning the Malay Peninsula and parts of Borneo, with attractive island destinations such as Langkawi, Penang, Tioman, and the Perhentian Islands. Kuala Lumpur offers the broadest professional opportunities, particularly in banking, technology, shared services, compliance, healthcare, and multinational companies. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian, and indigenous influences reflected in food, festivals, languages, and daily life. Living costs are generally moderate for a major Asian capital, while public transport, restaurants, shopping, and healthcare are accessible. English is widely used in business. Foreign professionals normally need employer sponsorship for an Employment Pass, and the employer usually manages the application. Families should check dependent-pass and schooling requirements. Before relocating, confirm the contract, tax treatment, health coverage, accommodation, and current immigration rules. Coastal and island areas offer a slower lifestyle but fewer specialised corporate jobs.
