Destination Guide

Malaysia offers a mix of busy city careers and relaxed island living. Kuala Lumpur and Cyberjaya provide the strongest opportunities in technology, consulting, AI, SAP and shared services, while Penang has a growing electronics and digital sector. Popular islands include Langkawi, Penang, Redang, Perhentian and Tioman, each offering beaches, diving and a slower lifestyle; however, most professional roles are based on the mainland or larger urban centers. Malaysia is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences reflected in food, festivals and languages. Living costs are generally moderate, though Kuala Lumpur and Penang are more expensive than smaller towns. Foreign employees normally need an Employment Pass sponsored by their employer, and qualifications and salary must meet immigration requirements. Bring certified documents, allow time for approvals and check tax and healthcare arrangements. English is widely used in business, while learning basic Malay helps with daily life.
