Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in technology, shared services, consulting, engineering, finance and digital operations, especially around Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Johor. While Kuala Lumpur is on the peninsula rather than an island, Malaysia also includes attractive island destinations such as Penang, Langkawi and parts of Sabah and Sarawak. The culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences, and English is widely used in professional workplaces. Living costs are moderate compared with many global technology hubs, although central Kuala Lumpur and popular island areas can be more expensive. Employees enjoy tropical weather, diverse food, beaches and efficient urban amenities. Foreign professionals generally need employer sponsorship for an Employment Pass, with approval handled through Malaysian immigration authorities. Candidates should confirm eligibility, medical requirements, taxation, housing and relocation support before accepting an offer.
