Destination Guide

Malaysia offers technology opportunities mainly in Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya, Penang and Johor, with roles in banking technology, data engineering, cloud, cybersecurity, shared services and consulting. Penang is especially strong in electronics and engineering, while Langkawi, Sabah and Sarawak provide a slower island or coastal lifestyle but fewer specialist technology vacancies. Malaysian culture is multicultural, combining Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous traditions, with excellent food and generally welcoming communities. Living costs are moderate compared with many global technology hubs, although central Kuala Lumpur housing can be expensive. Foreign professionals normally need an Employment Pass sponsored by their employer; the company typically handles the application, subject to immigration approval and salary requirements. Before relocating, confirm healthcare coverage, tax treatment, probation terms, transport and housing. English is widely used in business, while learning basic Malay is helpful for daily life. Malaysia’s climate is hot and humid year-round, with regional monsoon seasons.
