Destination Guide

Malaysia offers strong opportunities in cloud computing, consulting, software engineering, shared services, cybersecurity, finance technology and enterprise applications, particularly around Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya and Penang. The country combines modern cities with diverse Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous cultures, excellent food and relatively affordable living costs. Kuala Lumpur provides the widest range of professional services, international schools and transport links, while Penang is attractive for technology, manufacturing and a more relaxed lifestyle. Langkawi, Sabah and Sarawak offer beaches, nature and outdoor activities, but generally have fewer corporate roles. English is widely used in business, though learning basic Malay is helpful. Foreign professionals normally need employer-sponsored approval and an Employment Pass before starting work; requirements and salary thresholds can change. Relocating employees should confirm sponsorship, taxation, healthcare, housing and dependent-pass arrangements with the employer before accepting an offer.
