Destination Guide

Malaysia offers varied opportunities for cloud, software, data and consulting professionals, especially in Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya and Penang. For island living, Penang combines a strong technology sector, heritage neighbourhoods, food culture and convenient urban services. Langkawi offers beaches and a slower lifestyle, but fewer specialist technology roles, so remote or hybrid work is more common. Sabah and Sarawak on Borneo provide attractive nature and growing business communities, although the technology market is smaller. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences, and English is widely used in professional settings. Living costs are generally moderate, though central Kuala Lumpur and popular island areas can be expensive. Foreign employees normally require employer-sponsored work authorisation, commonly an Employment Pass; requirements depend on salary, qualifications and role. Secure the offer and approval before relocating, and check current immigration rules. Public healthcare is affordable, while private international insurance is recommended.
