Destination Guide

Malaysia offers strong technology opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya and Penang, particularly in cybersecurity, cloud, software services, shared-service centers and telecommunications. Popular island destinations include Penang, Langkawi, Tioman and parts of Sabah and Sarawak. Penang combines a growing technology sector with heritage neighborhoods, beaches and a relaxed lifestyle, while Langkawi is better suited to slower living and tourism-related work. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences, and English is widely used in business. Living costs are generally moderate, though Kuala Lumpur is more expensive than smaller cities. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, and the company usually handles the application. Candidates should confirm sponsorship, salary thresholds, healthcare, taxation and relocation support before accepting an offer. Malaysia’s tropical climate, public transport in major cities and diverse food scene make relocation attractive.
