Destination Guide

Malaysia offers technology and consulting opportunities mainly in Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya, Penang, and Johor, with additional work connected to offshore and island destinations such as Langkawi, Penang Island, and parts of Sabah and Sarawak. Kuala Lumpur has the broadest market for SAP, finance transformation, IT consulting, and multinational employers. Penang combines a strong technology and electronics sector with a more relaxed island lifestyle, while Langkawi is better suited to tourism and remote-work living than corporate employment. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian, and indigenous influences, and English is widely used in business. Living costs are moderate, though central Kuala Lumpur and popular islands can be expensive. Foreign employees generally need employer-sponsored approval and an Employment Pass; dependants may require separate passes. Candidates should confirm current immigration rules, healthcare, housing, and tax obligations before relocating.
