Destination Guide

Malaysia offers strong opportunities in technology consulting, SAP, cloud services, engineering, shared services, finance and digital transformation, particularly in Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya, Penang and Johor. Although most professional roles are based on the mainland, islands such as Penang, Langkawi and parts of Sabah and Sarawak provide attractive lifestyle alternatives. Penang combines a strong technology sector with historic neighbourhoods, beaches and excellent food. Langkawi is quieter and more tourism-focused, while Sabah offers nature, diving and a relaxed pace. Malaysia has a multicultural society influenced by Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous traditions, with English widely used in business. Living costs are moderate compared with many global technology hubs. Foreign professionals generally need employer-sponsored work authorization, such as an Employment Pass, before starting work. Candidates should confirm sponsorship, relocation support, taxation, healthcare and dependent-pass arrangements with the employer.
