Destination Guide

Malaysia offers strong technology opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya, Penang and Johor Bahru, particularly in software development, cloud computing, SAP, cybersecurity, shared services and digital consulting. Penang is known for its technology and engineering industries, while Langkawi, Sabah and Sarawak offer a slower island or coastal lifestyle with attractive natural surroundings. Malaysian culture is diverse, combining Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous traditions, with English widely used in professional workplaces. Living costs are generally moderate, though central Kuala Lumpur and popular expatriate areas are more expensive. Public transport is strongest in Kuala Lumpur; elsewhere, driving is often practical. Foreign professionals usually need employer sponsorship for an Employment Pass, with the hiring company handling much of the application process. Before relocating, confirm eligibility, dependants' arrangements, healthcare, housing and tax requirements.
