Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in technology consulting, enterprise systems, shared services, finance, engineering, tourism and digital operations, especially in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor and Cyberjaya. For island living, Penang combines a strong technology sector with heritage streets, beaches and excellent food, while Langkawi is quieter and more tourism-focused. Sabah and Sarawak offer distinctive cultures, nature and growing economic activity, though specialist technology roles are more concentrated in major cities. Malaysian life is generally affordable, with diverse Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences, tropical weather and convenient public transport in urban areas. English is widely used in professional settings. Foreign employees normally require employer-sponsored authorization, usually an Employment Pass, arranged before starting work. Relocating candidates should check passport validity, medical requirements, housing, tax obligations and dependent visas. Costs and traffic vary considerably by city, so a short-term rental is useful initially.
