Destination Guide

Malaysia offers varied career opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor, Sabah and Sarawak, especially in technology consulting, shared services, manufacturing, engineering and digital operations. Penang is attractive for electronics and engineering professionals, while Langkawi and Sabah offer a slower island lifestyle and tourism-related opportunities. Kuala Lumpur remains the main business hub, with the widest selection of international employers, housing and transport. Malaysian culture is diverse, combining Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous traditions, with excellent food and generally affordable living costs. English is widely used in professional settings. Foreign employees normally require employer sponsorship for an Employment Pass; qualifications, salary thresholds and approvals apply, so relocation should be arranged with the hiring company. Public healthcare is accessible, while private international coverage is advisable. Tropical weather, traffic and occasional haze are practical considerations when choosing a location.
