Destination Guide

Malaysia offers technology opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya, Penang and Johor, while island destinations such as Langkawi, Penang and parts of Sabah and Sarawak provide a slower coastal lifestyle. The culture is multicultural, combining Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous traditions, with English widely used in business. Living costs are moderate compared with many global technology hubs, though central Kuala Lumpur and popular islands can be more expensive. Professionals usually find modern apartments, reliable internet, extensive food choices and good regional air connections. Foreign employees generally need an employment pass sponsored by their employer; eligibility depends on salary, qualifications and role, and rules can change. Employers commonly assist with applications and relocation. Peninsular Malaysia has the largest corporate technology market, while Penang is strong in engineering and shared services. Research healthcare, schooling, housing and tax requirements before moving.
