Destination Guide

Malaysia offers varied opportunities in consulting, technology, shared services, finance, engineering, tourism and digital businesses. Kuala Lumpur and Selangor are the main professional hubs, while Penang is strong in technology and manufacturing, and Johor benefits from Singapore-linked investment. Island destinations such as Penang, Langkawi and parts of Sabah and Sarawak provide a more relaxed lifestyle, though specialist jobs are fewer than in major cities. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences, and English is widely used in business. Living costs are moderate, with higher housing prices in central Kuala Lumpur and popular expatriate areas. International employees normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, and the company must handle the application and eligibility process. Relocating requires a valid job offer, passport, qualifications and background documentation. Public transport, healthcare, food and digital services are generally convenient.
