Destination Guide

Malaysia offers strong technology opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya and Penang, especially in cloud engineering, data, cybersecurity, shared services and consulting. Kuala Lumpur is the main business hub, while Penang combines technology employment with a relaxed coastal lifestyle. For island living and short breaks, Langkawi is popular for beaches and a slower pace, while Redang, Perhentian and Tioman are known for diving and nature; these islands have fewer year-round professional opportunities than major cities. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences, and English is widely used in business. Living costs are moderate, though central Kuala Lumpur and popular islands can be expensive. Foreign employees generally need employer-sponsored approval, such as an Employment Pass, before starting work. Check current immigration rules, healthcare, housing and tax obligations before relocating.
