Destination Guide

Malaysia offers technology opportunities mainly in Kuala Lumpur and nearby Selangor, with additional digital and engineering roles in Penang, Johor and Cyberjaya. Penang combines a strong technology and manufacturing economy with a relaxed island lifestyle, while Langkawi is better known for tourism and remote-work appeal. Kuala Lumpur provides the widest choice of employers, international schools, housing and transport, although living costs are higher. Malaysian culture is multicultural, shaped by Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous traditions, with excellent food and generally welcoming communities. Most professional jobs require an employer-sponsored Employment Pass; the company normally handles the application, and approval depends on salary, qualifications and role requirements. Relocating candidates should arrange certified documents, health insurance, suitable accommodation and a local bank account. English is widely used in business, while learning basic Malay is helpful for everyday life.
