Destination Guide

Malaysia is a multicultural country with strong technology opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya, Penang and Johor, while island destinations such as Langkawi, Penang and parts of Sabah and Sarawak offer a slower coastal lifestyle. Kuala Lumpur is the main corporate hub, with modern transport, international schools, hospitals, restaurants and generally lower living costs than Singapore. Malaysian workplace culture values politeness, teamwork, hierarchy and respect for different ethnic and religious traditions. English is widely used in technology and multinational companies, although Malay is the official language. Foreign professionals normally need employer sponsorship for an Employment Pass, with the company handling much of the application process; requirements can include qualifications, experience and an approved salary level. Candidates should confirm current immigration rules before relocating. Housing, transport and healthcare are accessible, but costs vary significantly between central Kuala Lumpur, Penang and island locations.
