Destination Guide

Malaysia offers varied work and lifestyle options across the peninsula and Borneo. Kuala Lumpur and nearby Cyberjaya provide the strongest technology opportunities, including software engineering, consulting, cloud, finance, and shared-service roles. Penang, an island and major technology hub, is known for electronics, manufacturing, IT services, food, and a relaxed coastal lifestyle. Langkawi offers beaches and slower living but fewer technology jobs, while Sabah and Sarawak provide opportunities in energy, infrastructure, tourism, and regional services. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian, and Indigenous influences; English is widely used in business. Living costs are generally moderate, though central Kuala Lumpur and popular island areas are more expensive. Foreign professionals usually need employer sponsorship for an Employment Pass, with the company handling much of the application. Bring certified qualifications, allow time for immigration processing, and research housing, healthcare, transport, and tax obligations before relocating.
