Destination Guide

Malaysia offers strong opportunities in software engineering, SAP, cloud, cybersecurity, shared services and digital consulting, particularly in Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya, Penang and Johor. The country has a multicultural environment shaped by Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous communities, with English widely used in professional settings. Lifestyle costs are generally lower than in Singapore or Western Europe, while public transport, food variety and modern amenities are good in major cities. Popular island destinations include Langkawi, Penang, Tioman, Perhentian and Redang, offering beaches, diving and relaxed weekends. Foreign professionals normally require an Employment Pass sponsored by their employer; the company typically manages the application. Relocating employees should arrange passport documentation, housing, medical coverage, banking and tax registration. Kuala Lumpur is the main employment hub, while Penang offers a slower pace and a strong technology and manufacturing economy.
