Destination Guide

Malaysia offers strong opportunities in consulting, technology, shared services, finance, engineering, manufacturing and digital transformation, especially in Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Johor. Its culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences, and English is widely used in professional settings. Kuala Lumpur provides modern transport, international schools, restaurants and a busy urban lifestyle, while Penang offers a more relaxed environment, heritage, beaches and a growing technology sector. Living costs are generally lower than in Singapore or major Western cities, although central Kuala Lumpur housing can be expensive. Foreign professionals normally need employer sponsorship for an Employment Pass, with approval and eligibility depending on salary, qualifications and role. Relocating employees should arrange immigration support, healthcare coverage, housing and tax advice before arrival. Malaysia’s tropical climate, diverse food and good regional flight connections make it attractive for long-term living and travel.
