Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in technology consulting, software, cloud, cybersecurity, finance, shared services, digital commerce, and engineering. Kuala Lumpur and nearby Selangor are the main corporate hubs, while Penang is strong in technology and manufacturing, and Johor benefits from links to Singapore. Island living is especially attractive in Penang and Langkawi, with beaches, food, and a slower pace; Sabah and Sarawak offer nature and multicultural communities. Malaysian culture blends Malay, Chinese, Indian, and indigenous influences, and English is widely used in business. Living costs are generally moderate, though central Kuala Lumpur housing can be expensive. International hires usually need employer sponsorship for an Employment Pass, with approval depending on salary, qualifications, and company requirements. Families should check dependent-pass and schooling arrangements before relocating. Healthcare, transport, internet access, and major-city amenities are generally good, while smaller islands may have fewer professional services.
