Destination Guide

Indonesia offers hospitality and engineering opportunities across Bali, Java, Lombok, Batam and other resort islands. Bali has the largest international tourism market, while Jakarta and Surabaya provide broader corporate and hotel employment. The culture is diverse, welcoming and strongly influenced by community traditions, religion and family life; local customs and modest dress should be respected. Lifestyle ranges from busy urban living to beach, outdoor and island communities, with generally affordable food and transport, although popular tourist areas can be expensive. Foreign nationals normally need an employer-sponsored work permit and appropriate work visa; working on a tourist visa is not permitted. Employers commonly assist with immigration, contracts and relocation, but applicants should confirm salary, accommodation, insurance, tax and flight arrangements before accepting. Indonesian language skills are useful, while English is important in international hotels. Costs and availability vary considerably between islands.
