Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is not an island but a federation of seven emirates, with Dubai and Abu Dhabi offering the largest concentration of hospitality, tourism, events and business opportunities. The country has a multicultural expatriate workforce, modern infrastructure and a generally conservative culture that values respectful dress and behavior, especially during Ramadan. Lifestyle options range from beaches, shopping and fine dining to desert activities, museums and international entertainment. Most foreign employees require employer-sponsored residence and work visas; the employer usually arranges medical checks, Emirates ID processing and work authorization. Relocation packages may include accommodation, transport, flights and health insurance, but these should be confirmed in the contract. Living costs vary considerably, with Dubai and Abu Dhabi usually more expensive than other emirates. A valid passport, verified qualifications and an attested employment contract may be required.
