Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a compact, highly connected city and territory with busy urban districts, islands, hiking trails, beaches and a strong international business community. Job opportunities are especially common in hospitality, finance, professional services, technology, retail, logistics and tourism. The culture blends Cantonese traditions with global influences; English is widely used in business, while Cantonese is valuable for daily life. Housing can be expensive, but public transport is efficient and reliable, and many residents live in Kowloon or the New Territories for better value. Lifestyle options include excellent dining, shopping, nightlife, country parks and nearby islands. Overseas professionals normally need an employment visa sponsored by a Hong Kong employer, with eligibility based on qualifications, experience and a confirmed job offer. Employers often assist with the application. Relocating employees should budget for rent, deposits, healthcare, schooling if relevant and mandatory taxation. Hong Kong offers dependent visas for eligible family members.
