Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a compact, energetic city with strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, retail, finance, technology, logistics and professional services. Hospitality work is concentrated around Central, Tsim Sha Tsui, Causeway Bay, the airport and resort areas such as Lantau Island. The culture blends Cantonese traditions, international influences, fast-paced business life and highly efficient public transport. Rent can be expensive, especially near major employment districts, although shared accommodation and areas in the New Territories may reduce costs. Employees enjoy excellent food, shopping, hiking, beaches and a vibrant social scene. Foreign workers generally need an approved employment visa before starting work; employers usually sponsor applications under the relevant employment scheme and the role must meet immigration requirements. Bring valid qualifications, references and financial savings for initial costs. Hong Kong uses the Hong Kong dollar, and Cantonese and English are widely used in workplaces.
