Company Info

Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts is a luxury hospitality group founded in Hong Kong, with hotels, resorts and residences across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America and other international destinations. The brand is known for warm Asian hospitality, personalised service and high standards across accommodation, dining, meetings, wellness and leisure operations. Its Malaysian properties serve business travellers, holidaymakers, wedding parties and corporate clients, creating opportunities in guest services, food and beverage, events, sales and hotel operations. Employees generally work in multicultural teams and are expected to show professionalism, genuine care for guests and strong attention to detail. Benefits and career development can vary by property, position and employment contract, so candidates should confirm working hours, accommodation, service charges, medical coverage and progression opportunities directly with the recruiting hotel.

Destination Guide

Malaysia offers varied opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, events, tourism and retail, particularly in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu and Johor. Island destinations such as Langkawi, Penang, Redang and Tioman provide a relaxed lifestyle, beaches, outdoor activities and strong seasonal demand for hospitality staff, although costs and transport can be higher on smaller islands. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences, and English is commonly used in hotels. Foreign nationals normally need an employer-sponsored work permit before starting employment; the employer typically manages the application, while requirements depend on nationality, role and salary. Relocating workers should check contract terms, accommodation, healthcare, transport, tax obligations and whether dependants are eligible. Malaysia is generally welcoming, but island life can feel quieter and more limited than city living.
