Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact island city-state with strong opportunities in hotels, tourism, aviation, finance, technology, healthcare, retail and food and beverage. Its culture blends Chinese, Malay, Indian and Western influences, reflected in festivals, languages and hawker cuisine. Living standards are high, public transport is efficient and the city is safe, clean and convenient, although rent and daily expenses can be substantial. English is widely used at work, while Mandarin, Malay or other languages may be useful in guest-facing roles. Foreign employees generally need an employer-sponsored work pass, such as an Employment Pass, S Pass or Work Permit; eligibility depends on salary, qualifications and current government criteria. New arrivals should arrange accommodation, medical coverage, banking and local transport. Singapore has a hot, humid climate year-round, with frequent rain, so lightweight clothing and adaptable footwear are practical.
