Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a compact, highly international destination with strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, catering, retail, finance, technology, and tourism. Hospitality workers can find roles in luxury hotels, independent restaurants, clubs, and large convention venues, although competition is significant and Cantonese may be useful for some positions. The culture combines Chinese traditions with international influences; respect, punctuality, hierarchy, and fast service are valued. Life is energetic and convenient, with excellent public transport, diverse food, shopping, hiking, beaches, and a high cost of housing. Foreign employees generally need an approved employment visa before starting work, normally sponsored by the employer and linked to a confirmed job. Applicants should prepare qualifications, references, passport documents, and medical or background paperwork where requested. Relocation packages vary, so candidates should confirm accommodation, meals, insurance, air travel, service charge, working hours, and visa support directly with Shangri-La.
